Budgeting & Cash Flow Essentials

I'd tried budgeting apps before, but nothing actually stuck until I understood the reasoning behind the categories. The cash flow mapping exercise in week two was genuinely eye-opening — I'd been consistently underestimating one area of my spending by quite a margin. The templates are practical, not fancy, which I found more useful.

Understanding Investments

I'd read a lot online about investing but the quality of information varies so wildly. What I valued most about this programme was the focus on understanding what you're reading — prospectuses, fund documents — rather than just being told what to buy. The simulation platform helped me think through scenarios without any real stakes. Solid eight weeks.

Comprehensive Financial Planning

My wife and I did this together as we're approaching 50 and had been putting off a proper review of our CPF and retirement plans for too long. The three individual sessions were particularly valuable — we could go through our actual numbers with Shanti rather than just learning in the abstract. One thing I'd mention: it requires real engagement. Not a passive course.

Budgeting & Cash Flow Essentials

I started this programme not expecting much — I'd attended financial talks before that turned out to be product pitches in disguise. This was different. Nothing was sold to me. The facilitator was genuinely focused on helping us understand. Five weeks went quickly, and the habit of checking my cash flow statement monthly has stayed with me since.

Understanding Investments

Marcus's explanations of how REITs work in Singapore were the clearest I've come across. A lot of online content is either too simplified or assumes you're already familiar with the mechanics. The group discussion format also helped — hearing how other participants were thinking about diversification was useful in its own right. Would have liked a ninth session, honestly.

Comprehensive Financial Planning

The estate planning module was the part I least expected to find useful — it felt abstract when I read about it. But working through the exercises and then discussing it in a private session made it concrete. The planning workbook is something I actually refer back to, which isn't something I expected to say about educational material.

Participant Journeys

How participants used what they learned.

Starting Point

A marketing executive in her early 30s earning a reasonable income but feeling like she never had anything left at month's end. She couldn't identify where the money was going and felt anxious about not having an emergency fund.

Programme Taken

Completed Budgeting & Cash Flow Essentials over five weeks. Applied the cash flow mapping exercise to four months of her actual bank statements during the programme.

Six Months Later

Had built a three-month emergency fund and identified two spending categories where she was comfortable reducing. Enrolled in Understanding Investments the following intake.

Starting Point

A couple in their late 40s, both working professionals, who had been contributing to their CPF for over 20 years but had never properly reviewed how it was structured or what their retirement position looked like.

Programme Taken

Completed Comprehensive Financial Planning together. Used the three individual consultations to work through their combined CPF position, insurance review, and a retirement projection scenario.

Outcome

Identified a meaningful gap in their insurance coverage and adjusted their Voluntary Contributions in a way that reflected their actual retirement timeline. Described the programme as "probably the most financially useful thing we've done in years."
